8th District Disaster Relief Committee

The 8th Episcopal District formed the 8th Episcopal District Disaster Relief Committee after the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Over 49 churches were damaged and/or destroyed by these storms. Not only were the people in the areas of southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and southern Louisiana effected but the devastating effects of these storms extended around the world. The price of oil and other resources climbed to historic levels in a few short months.

Now the 8th Episcopal District has responded to Hurricanes Gustav as well as Hurricane Ike as we continue to provide shelter, food, clothing, and other resources as deemed necessary. The primary sheltering site for the 8th Episcopal District is located on the site of the Bonner Campbell Institute located in Edwards Mississippi where Reverend Cory Watts (revcorywatts@hotmail.com)  is the Shelter Director.  There is also a distribution site in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that is facilitated by Reverend Belinda Washington (belinwash@gmail.com). Pastors and other leadership in the 8th Episcopal District play a key role in the support of both of these ministries.
